Article from the LMS – http://www.lms.org.uk/news-and-events/news-blog/november-2013#requiems

The LMS stall at Towards AdventSaturday was a busy day in London for the LMS. In the morning we had the first of two Requiem Masses in the capital at St Patrick’s Cemetery Chapel in Leytonstone, east London.

At the same time in central London, we had a stall at the Towards Event Festival of Catholic Culture in the cathedral hall in Westminster. This is an all-day event which combines talks on various subjects of interest to Catholics with a pre-Advent bazaar. We had one of the many stalls there and trade was brisk.

Bishop Arnold performs Absolutions at the Catafalque

Plenty of people stopped to browse the LMS stand. Notably, the item that many people were interested in was our teach-yourself Latin course Simplicissimus.

In the afternoon, next door in Westminster Cathedral, Bishop John Arnold offered our annual Requiem Mass for all our deceased members. The Cathedral Choir sang Victoria’s Requiem and many people said to me afterwards how much they had appreciated this year’s Mass.A big thank you to the organisers, led by the redoubtable Brian Towler, and to our team of LMS volunteers, who manned the stall for six hours.

It’s worth making the point that the annual Requiem Mass is one of the ways we help our members when they have passed from this life to the next. Just as the Church herself has three divisions to its members (militant, suffering and triumphant) so the LMS mirrors that continuing supernatural bond between the living and the dead. Every year we offer this Mass for the repose of the souls of our deceased members. We also help, if we can, with making sure that you get the Traditional funeral that you would want.
